Prototype 4: This one is a juicy one. Remember Prototype 4 above, well, it appears that it was a step into getting Prototype 4 done. Whenever I think I am done, he comes and brings me another one to play with. Now you don't have to wonder why I don't get any projects done...is because I spent my time knitting little swatches! I'll sacrifice myself and try out the loom....torture (LOL).
What is it? I have no idea. It looks like a Wonderloom, it has almost the same knit gauge/tension as the WonderSock loom, but it has pegs like the GAL Rake. Confused? I know, I am. But my job is to simply sit down and try them. So I sat down and tried it.
Yarn to test with: Lion Brand Sock Ease. Weight category 1.
Results: 7.5sts per inch, 11 rows.
Fabric Density: Not holey. Tight, not as tight as the 9sts per inch that the WonderSock Loom gets but still tight.
Test: Passed.
As to what do I call it. I have no idea. I can see that the pins help in maintaining an even U around the pins and therefore providing an even stitch consequently providing an even fabric. So I guess if you have issues with the stitches not coming out uniform this could be an option for you. (click the image below to see how to wrap the pegs). Mini-movie of me working with the loom.
So, what do you think I should call this Prototype 4?
I want to hear your thoughts about this loom. Would you be interested in such a thing? What would you call it? P4?!?

that does look interesting indeed. as for a name... i'm not sure. WonderGAL? LOL

"Pegs and Needles" or "Pegs and Pins." I'll think of more.
Neat looking loom that's for sure!

I really like this loom. I like using the U stitch, but my stitches aren't always uniform because my tension is not the same on each stitch. I can see where this loom would speed up my looming and give a consistant stitch. how about 'p4us' (perfect for uniform stitches)?

Oh yeah, I gotta have one of those!
It is really a "Perfect Sock Loom". This loom will make it faster to do the u-stitch, and keep the gauge more uniform.
So when does it go on sale? Why are you tempting me? I want one. Really, I do. : )

I can't wait until it is available, I'm sure it would be very popular. How about Peggy for its name?

Like this concept...I like how it holds the wy for you as you go. :)
Peggy sounds cute...it's similar to GAL. Or how about "The Wonder-U Loom!" It's a lot like "wonderful you", and would make you feel encouraged just using it, lol! ;)
Keep up the great ideas!

Hmmm,
U-topia (hee hee)
Shangri-loom
Au Fait (means - adjective: being up to particular standard or level especially in being up to date in knowledge; "kept abreast of the latest developments"; "constant revision keeps the book au courant"; "always au fait on the latest events"; "up on the news" [syn: abreast])
maybe Symphoknit?
Or you could name it the Guppy ;D

I do like this one. I have yet to work with a fine gauge loom. They look like they'd be hard to wrap, but this one looks like it'd be much easier and I like that it's in Wonderloom form.

I think it looks cool. But is it hard to you for people with RA fingers. Knifty knitters is easy to use the round ones w/ my RA fingers.
But I'd like a different guage. I'm new to learning this infor.

Very impressed with the loom, and I think it would be great in other gauges as well. Like the idea of using the U-stitch, which I don't use now because tension is too fiddly, and also love the speeday wrapping this method allows.
I like that you try to keep your looms smooth around the outside/inside. My yarn already gets caught on..... well, everything really, lol.

I'm still hoping you'll one day grace a loom with the name "Manny."
As in Manny stitches.
Manny things you can create.
So Manny possibilities!
Can't you honestly hear the Loomers talking about not being able to wait to get their hands on "Manny?"
C'mon, there's a certain ring to it!
Buwahahahahaha!

I have GOT to have this loom. How about the Gotta Have it Loom...
or the U Loom?
Do you think this will be avilable soon?
Posted by: kathy | October 21, 2008 at 06:04 PM
I'm with Dora for calling it "Pegs N Pins," but also possibly "Pegs N Pins 4 U".
Posted by: Tammey | October 24, 2008 at 04:59 PM
I like the Pegs N Pins idea someone gave already for a name.
I just wanted to let you know that if you ever get tired of trying out proto-types. I'd be more than willing to help you out. :).
Up here in Canada it is very hard to find quality looms other than the knifty knitters and even some of those can't be found, such as the flower loom and the loom clips.
Shipping things up from the USA gets kind of expensive as well with customs etc.
I look forward to seeing your next prototype.

Sounds like a "Perfect Stitch" loom to me. And one that I want. ;-)
Posted by: Kathy N | October 27, 2008 at 12:34 PM
I don't really care what it is called, all I can say, is, it looks like something I've been looking for for a long time. Here's to hoping it becomes a reality.

"Pegs-N-Pins" sounds good (someone already suggested that) or how about "Perfecto Loom" maybe...like a few of the others said, whatever you call it I would be interested in getting one too!
I'm afraid I'm not the best at thinking of names, but I'm definitely interested.
